The Trail des Forts in Fontain: a fifth edition crowned with success!

A glimpse into History

Created in 2004, the Trail des Forts de Besançon has become one of the largest nature trail races in eastern France over the past twenty years, with a well-established reputation both nationally and internationally. Organized by the ASTB running association, with the support of the City of Besançon and Grand Besançon Métropole, the event has established itself as a major sporting showcase and an emblem of the region's commitment to outdoor activities.

All participants pass through the Citadel of Besançon, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and its famous ramparts. The long 62-km course, meanwhile, offers an exceptional itinerary through all 10 of the XNUMXth-century forts that surround the city, including the Roland Battery and the Fort de Fontain.

A visit to Fontaine is now unmissable

The Fort de Fontain crossing, made possible in 2020 thanks to the commitment of Marie-Anne Spony, is accompanied each year by a strategic refreshment point set up at the foot of the fort, facing the Jura Mountains. Since its introduction, this passage has become a highlight of the course, appreciated by runners and spectators alike.

For this 22nd edition, whose route was reversed, 1 trail runners (034 solo and 880 in two-person relays) raced from the fort to the heart of the village, before reaching Arguel via the Roland Battery. The sun was shining, and many spectators—family, friends, and locals—were there to cheer on the runners, also enjoying the superb panoramas.

Exemplary local mobilization

As every year, the municipality lent a helping hand by providing barriers, safety equipment, and ensuring the maintenance of the paths used. Fifty volunteers were mobilized, some as early as Friday, to ensure the provisioning of supplies, marking, safety, and public reception. Their involvement, efficiency, and good humor were praised by all. May they be warmly thanked here!

Two of the best children from Fontaine!

Fontaine can be proud of its champions. Two trail runners from the village made it into the top four of the 62 km course:

  • Simon Bulloz, third (on the podium applauding the first)
  • Antoine Olivier, fourth (in yellow at the foot of the podium)

An exceptional performance which highlights the sporting dynamism of our town.

The date is already set for next year on May 9th!
